When "Exterminate!" Applies to the Audience

Doctor Who was once about thrilling adventures across time and space. Now? It’s a sanctimonious TED Talk in a blue box. The BBC and Russell T. Davies have turned the longest-running sci-fi series into a woke virtue-signaling factory, replacing compelling storytelling with clumsy identity politics. The Doctor used to fight Daleks; now, he fights the patriarchy and has awkward love confessions for Isaac Newton. Viewers aren’t impressed—ratings have plummeted, crew members are jumping ship, and even Disney, the global king of progressive pandering, is eyeing the exit. When your main character’s biggest plot twist is that they’re stunning and brave, instead of, say, saving the universe, you’ve lost the plot—literally. The audience doesn’t mind diverse characters; they mind being force-fed activism instead of good stories. And the worst part? The BBC seems baffled as to why no one wants to watch anymore. Well, Doctor, when you spend more time ticking off diversity checklists than crafting gripping narratives, the only thing you regenerate is apathy.
