The Rise of the 'Nones'
In the grand ol' U.S. of A, the 'Nones' (folks who check the 'no religion' box) are now outpacing Catholics and evangelical Protestants, sitting pretty at 28%. This hodgepodge group of atheists, agnostics, and "whatever" folks who apparently still believe in a higher power but think religious services are snooze fests. While they're not exactly transcendental over religion, they do think it's got some good points. However, don't expect them at your next bake sale; community spirit isn't their forte.
Young, White, and Male: The 'Nones' Profile
Demographics of the 'Nones' sound like a millennial tech startup - mostly under 50, predominantly white, and leaning male, especially among the atheists and agnostics. The "nothing in particular" crowd is more diverse. Interestingly, while they're big on logic and not hurting others in moral decision-making, they're less thrilled with their social lives and communities compared to the religious crowd. Seems like logic doesn't always equate to satisfaction or community spirit. See the link for more information.
